What does "Health-Challenged "Mean?

Anyone whose life has been affected by cancer or chronic health issues ( diabetes, auto-immune, etc...) can tell you just how challenging their skin can become. The skin is the largest organ in your body, and next to the brain, it is the most sophisticated. Your skin is your number one defense against infection, and it is going to affected by your medication therapies. So, it is critical that you maintain healthy skin.

Our "Oncology Trained"  professionals are experienced with your particular health needs. Not all services may be available to you during some medical treatments. Rest assure, we will inform you, if a service you have requested shouldn't be performed at a particular time and we will help you choose a service that will be a safe and effective alternative.

All of our health challenged guests are first directed to Tracy or Stephanie. Both Tracy and Stephanie are oncology trained with more than10 years of experience. Tracy is  also a Regional Trainer for Oncology Spa Solutions®. An initial consultation with you to gather a guest profile and medical history. Tracy performs all oncology skin care services which will calm, soothe and hydrate your skin. Tracy's daughter, Stephanie Seckel, a licensed cosmetologist is also "Oncology Trained" and can help with hair loss, cranial prosthetics, and nail issues that can arise from cancer therapies.

Tracy is the owner and founder of Skin Deep Salon & Spa. The first salon and spa in Iowa to offer services to oncology and other health compromised clients by professionals specifically trained to care for their unique needs.

Tracy was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 1987. She is a DES daughter, meaning her Mother was prescribed DES during her pregnancy. It wasn't until years later that it was learned DES causes cancer and many other health problem for the developing fetus when taken during pregnancy. Following a complete hysterectomy at the age of 23 she was considered cured and fortunately has remained as such ever since.

Her experience as well as many other experiences with friends and family members battling cancer has driven her to create a safe place for individuals facing these health issues. Where individuals can come and be assured that they are in good hands, and with people who care about them and their journey.

Testimonials

I am writing this testimonial to encourage people to take care of their skin while they are going through chemo or radiation therapies.

Tracy took extreme care of my skin during my chemotherapy. I felt that she  really cared about how I felt and was responsible for my great attitude and good skin during my treatments.

Stephanie was responsible for fitting my wig and taking care of my hair during this time also. I always thought Tracy was responsible for my good reports from the Doctors and I told my surgeon and oncology doctors how much better she made me feel.

Let yourself relax and enjoy what Tracy can do for you.

I have been coming to Skin Deep for over a year and would highly recommend it for someone who wants to receive a soothing and relaxing pedicure.

I started to use their services after experiencing a severe skin reaction on my feet caused by a side effect of one of the chemotherapy drugs which I received for the ovarian cancer which I have had for 3.5 years.  The chemo drug caused severe blistering of my toes and pressure areas on my bilateral great toes which caused me to have my toenails removed professionally by a podiatrist.  After this treatment, I knew I needed continued professional help in keeping my feet in good shape since I am still receiving chemo.  Thus, my monthly visits to Skin Deep began.

I know I am receiving the best care for my feet by professionals who know what to do for my skin which has been affected by different chemo. agents.  The hour treatment is also very relaxing and soothing and I leave with "baby" soft feet and pretty colored toes!

Of the extra "little treats" I now indulge in since my diagnosis, I know this is one I would never give up since it helps in keeping my feet healthy which is so important since chemo drugs can have so many harsh side effects.

You won't be disappointed!

The first time I walked into Skin Deep Salon & Spa I was a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient and was scared to death. I walked in on a whim to look at wigs and Tracy was the first person I encountered there. My tears came quickly, but I was immediately put at ease by her. Her knowledge, compassion and love for what she does made me feel so comfortable and I knew I was going to be well taken care of.

Nothing was more traumatizing to me as a cancer patient as losing my hair. I chose to have my head shaved before it fell out. The staff at Skin Deep made the process not quite so bad. Their compassion, professionalism, and just knowing they cared made it a little easier.

I continued to visit Tracy regularly during chemo for massages. Being that she is a Certified Oncology Esthetician she knew not only what I was going through, but what my body was going through, and how to treat and relax it during that time. Skin Deep made me feel like a normal person, and not just a person with cancer.

The staff goes above and beyond to make your experience a great one and I recommend them not only to others who have cancer, but to everyone as they are a full-service salon!
